Introduction to big words I am learning in Grad School. So, here I am, three weeks into my big MFA graduate program! Wow, look Mom! I am a big girl! Except, when I hear some of the words that my teachers use and I wonder if I didn't retain anything from undergrad or if I really missed something important. Phenomenology? Intersubjectivity? Say what? Deep breath Nik. It's okay, surely you aren't the only one that feels a bit lost in this language. Wait! What is that girl over there saying?? An experience? Like Disney? Surely not. Hold on! Touching my arm? Like just touching my arm is a phenomenological experience? Um....yeah, okay. No but seriously, it is! It is a tactile experience! So that seems easy enough, right? Except just when I think that I am comprehending the meaning, another factor comes into play. Either another big word or some other experience that doesn't seem to be second nature to me. Regardless, I will get this! Rome wasn't built in a day after all. But in all actuality, I am learning some incredible things. And my cohorts! I can't even begin with how fantastic everyone is. I feel so blessed and honored to be a part of such a beautiful program. And each day when I step out of my comfort zone and have a phenomenological experience of some sort, I remind myself that I am right where I need to be.
